Are you a connoisseur of technical woods-riding?  Either as a spectator, trail rider, or racer?  If so, then you won’t want to miss this race!   We are pleased to invite racers and fans to Mt. Motorcycles in southeastern West Virginia, for the 2015 Go-Race Beast Mode Time Trial.   Our mountain will be alive with racing action, as the racers awaken a course that we call The Beast!

This event will match hard-core woods racers with some of the very best technical terrain in the Appalachian Mountains.  The competitors will be introduced to the punishing rocks, awesome dirt, and steep mountains that southern West Virginia is known for.  The Beast measures a long and lean 15 miles, and 95% comes in the form of tight, technical single track.

During prior visits to our little trail system, Graham Jarvis provided valuable input and feedback about the terrain and features here.  Riding along with the Bel Ray Husqvarna Extreme Team ace, on our turf, allowed us to establish a solid baseline from which to work.  We asked him to rate some of our features from 1-10 on an unofficial Red Bull scale.  We wanted his feedback, to use as a reference as we develop more of our challenging terrain.

Although we probably won’t use any “10’s” in the race, we have plenty of them to choose from if we change our minds before October.  “Jarvis Hill” was named after the first and only man to climb it.  It is our toughest hill (so far), and was rated as an “8 or 9”.  And YES we will use it in the race!  But with a much longer bypass line available.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE COURSE

All of our past hare scramble courses received great reviews, despite being considerably more technical (harder) than almost all of the other traditional hare scrambles we’ve ever ridden or spectated.  We’ve seen many tracks, either from our seat, our feet, or the computer screen.  And like all trail builders, we’re always comparing and contrasting our tracks with the others.  Based on what we have heard and read from our racers, the tracks have earned a solid reputation as being some of the more difficult and fun races out there.

Races at Mt. Motorcycles have always lurked in the grey area between the typical “C-rider friendly” hare scramble and an “easy” extreme race…probably leaning toward the latter.  Although most riders loved the technical courses, others definitely seemed to hate their lives at the time.

After conducting 5 schools with Jarvis in the past 10 months, our staff has gained enormous perspective on terrain!  This past April, we spent two weeks of intense riding with him at Trials Training Center (home of Tennessee Knock Out), Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park, and at here at Mt. Motorcycles.  Let’s just say it was an education for us…one of EPIC proportions.  It showed us “the real deal” regarding the limits of man and machine.  The extreme education also showed us that our past race tracks…when compared to real extreme events like Erzberg, Romaniacs, and TKO…were more like strolls through the woods!

So for this race, we are leaving the fore mentioned grey area to build an in your face extreme course.  Bigger rocks, steeper and longer climbs, monster off-cambers, white-knuckle descents, and plenty of logs.  While we are cranking up the difficulty several notches, we will keep it rideable.  Many will finish, and some may not.  It all depends on the rider, right?

The Extreme Course at Mt. Moto will keep with our design philosophy, which focuses on rewarding the versatile rider.  We build tracks to expose the weaknesses of racers, but we also try and reward their strengths.  Our guys do that by building variety into the courses, and alternating between fast/flowy and slow/technical sections.

The extreme obstacles will naturally reward those who excel in tricky terrain.  But these areas will be concentrated, and separated by faster stretches of flowy single track.  Faster, but less technically skilled riders can make up some lost time here.  While this layout may help to even out the varied strengths and weaknesses of riders, raw trail speed can only go so far.  Like all the other races at Mt. Moto, The Go-Race Beast Mode TT  will all come down to who rides the strongest in the nasties!

We hope to see you and your crew in West Virginia this October, for an epic throw-down on the mountain!
